Wiki's and Widgets
Wiki's
Very interesting. I have only used Wikipedia as a dictionary, however, I found some interesting subjects and expanded my knowledge in them. I also found how to produce a web page.
I doubt that I will ever use this program for anything other than an educational tool.
Widgets
Very useful and hopefully a widget will appear on this blog.

Week 4
Facebook
I am already a member of facebook. Although I don't use it to the extent that most people do.
I cannot see any purpose in writing some of the pointless dribble I see every day. I think it can be a good thing if you live away from family as it is so easy to keep up to date with current affairs. You have to be very careful with your settings as everyone's comments are visible to everybody else.
It is very easy to trace someone just by typing in their name. This can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. On the plus side a couple of old friends that I had lost contact with were able to track me down and we have had a chance to re-establish our friendship.
On the minus side there are a few people that I would not like to have contact with and they can just as easily find me through Facebook.
Google Talk
I have not tried Google Talk but over the years I have used Skype and also Windows Messenger.
Our children and grandchildren live interstate and we only manage to see them a couple of times a year. Skype was a Godsend for us as it allowed us to see and talk to the children as they were growing up and it assisted in building a strong bond with them even though we were many miles apart.
We have also used Skype to talk to a nephew who is now living overseas and have been able to see his first child.

Week 3
This week we are leaning about YouTube, Podcasting, and Overdrive.
YouTube
I have used YouTube quite a lot. I think it is a very useful website. I use it mainly for reference purposes, as a "How To" site, and to watch the Pro bowlers in competition as we do not see these competitions on TV here in Australia. My passion for Ten Pin Bowling leads me to discover how bowling balls are manufactured and how they are drilled for maximum benefit.
The video below shows how a ball driller determines where to drill the finger and thumb holes so that the bowler is given the best possible chance to bowl high scores consistently.
For non bowlers I hope this gives some insight into what we, who treat the game as a serious sport and not just a leisurely outing, have to do to be competitive.
Podcasting
I think podcasting can be a very useful tool both in audio and video and I believe I will gain a great benefit from this tool later.
I had initial problems downloading to my MP3 player. I have a Samsung and obviously the podcasts are designed mainly for Apple products. However, after a few choice swear words I managed to sort out the Samsung program and downloaded an audio podcast to my MP3 player.
Overdrive
I have used this program in the past. I have problems reading a book, especially when travelling, and downloading the book to my MP3 player via overdrive was a very convenient way to catch up on my subject and to pass the time on a long journey.
